I bought these shoes specifically because of the rubber protection on the outside of the boot. This is where my sons' shoes break the most. Unfortunately, those shoes literally broke the first time he put them on at the skate park. Normally he can get his skate shoes out for a good 2 weeks before they break. I would say these shoes would be good for a beginner.
