In 2002 (!) I bought an antique European lace tablecloth. The color is more ecru than white and it's my favorite except I didn't want to do anything other than spot clean it. This year it became apparent that a thorough cleansing is needed. I was nervous that she would get completely wet and not put soap on her, so I kept researching until I discovered quilted soap and found out that my tablecloth was free of harsh chemicals that could attack my tablecloth. I risked it and bought it, filled the sink with cold water and washed the tablecloth with soap, then rinsed it thoroughly and laid it over the sheet in the sun to dry. I am very happy with the result - the soap leaves no odor, the tablecloth is clean.
