Review on Atomos Ninja V: 4Kp60 10bit HDR Portable Monitor/Recorder - Daylight Viewable 1000nit | ATOMNJAV01 by Julio Solano

No time code from HDMI is synchronized with an external recorder!

I gave 2 stars because Ninja V is not really professional equipment. I bought this recorder/monitor to record interviews with my Sony A7rIII. The Ninja V's display looks great, it's bright, it's scoped, it records well, but I'll be returning it. Contrary to the stated characteristics, it does not offer time code transmission through the HDMI output port. This means I don't have timecode on my external Sound Devices recorder and have to manually sync the interview. Come on Atomos, what's that 2009 model? The reason I chose the Ninja V was the HDMI output port's ability to send timecode to an external recording device. My old smallHD monitor shows the time code perfectly. Atomos offers a workaround: buy a separate powered HDMI splitter and split the camera's HDMI signal between the monitor and the recorder. While this works, it adds a power delivery device to my setup and defeats the Ninja V's presence of an HDMI output port from the start.
