Review on Philips SpeechOne Wireless Dictation Headset by Tyler Owens

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Updated Computers & Accessories review

This is a review of the Philips SpeechOne headset. I've been using this headset (with Dragon Professional 15 on my Lenova Yoga 920 laptop) for a few days. So far I find the Philips headset very pleasant. . The assembly/installation instructions for the product were unnecessarily complicated, but not too bad. I was hoping that this expensive headset would improve the dictation accuracy I got with my old handheld mic, but I find that's not the case. My biggest disappointment with the product is its range. I've found that I get good dictation accuracy with the headset as long as I'm within 4 feet of the docking station and my computer. If I go beyond that, the dictation accuracy drops significantly. When I'm at 9 feet the accuracy is extremely poor. I will update this review when I have more experience but my first impression is OK but not worth the price. UPDATE FEBRUARY: I'm working with a company representative to resolve my issue, but no improvement yet. Maybe my laptop and microphone aren't communicating. I will update this review if anything changes or the mystery is solved. JUNE UPDATE. A few months ago, with the help of the company, we discovered a bug that prevented this product from working. My setup was wrong. Since then the product has been working as promised. It's convenient and accurate. I took a star off the review for two reasons: (1) the assembly instructions were so vague that it was easy for anyone to make a mistake, and (2) the vinyl earcup cover is already broken. UPDATE SEP: A customer service rep I worked with kindly sent me a replacement handset. I love the product, but the installation instructions could be clearer.
