As a newbie to the world of direct CD printing, after purchasing a Canon Pixma iP4920 I decided to look for a recordable CD with an inkjet printing surface that doesn't smear. I bought some Memorex CDR discs with a matte printable surface from a local store, but the ink smeared. I bought Taiyo Yuden/JVC CDs based on the reviews and I wasn't disappointed at all. In fact, you have to see it to believe the print quality on these discs! It looks professional quality and they don't smudge at all. Well, if like me you're used to the lighter color of the phthalocyanine recording surface, you might be surprised by these discs. Taiyo Yuden/JVC uses cyanine, which is a darker blue-green color. I can't tell you much about the relative differences between the two types, except that it seems a lot has been written about the quality of Taiyo discs being superior and being highly recommended by disc manufacturers. I mention this so you won't be surprised by the color of the recording surface if you're expecting the usual from big-name disc manufacturers. So far I am happy with these discs and the print quality will astound any alternative printing method. Plate printing, excluding professional screen printing.
