These are definitely not the fly swatters my grandma used to hit me with as a child. If they were in my biological family, I would have celebrated. They don't hit fast because they're badly "laced up," or whatever they call them. It's a brittle plastic and difficult to swing through the air. I will have better luck catching flies with sticks! Serious. I'm definitely glad I don't hit my kids with it. They would laugh at me. By the way, I'm not a fan of hitting the ones I love and I still hope nobody does. I am only describing the experience I had with similar devices when I was young. I'll update my review if I find these headphones to be better quality than originally advertised after just blasting through and playing around with them. I will try them on the bugs and update if necessary. At this point I just feel like I'm experiencing too much wind resistance to knock the Beetle down quickly and I'm afraid it will break if I hit the table or counter. Breaking plastic when subjected to a fast-moving force seems a little intimidating. Apparently I've had too much time over the last few years to think about how to prevent the use of a fly swatter as a training tool.
