Review on Capresso Mini Drip Coffee Maker - 5-Cup, Black & Stainless Steel by Manjola Abrom

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great little coffee maker

Capresso Mini 5 cup dripper (model 426) is the perfect size for me and still works perfectly (it arrived two days ago, 7th December 2018). Embossed text on the bottom of the manufacturer says "Model 426" and is also numbered 4245 (no label). The detail where the physical device and its manual differ: The manual says that the detachable filter holder is the manufacturer. It's not like this. Instead, it has loop handles on the top, and closing the lid drops the basket. This forces the spring-loaded plunger (which is installed through the bottom of the filter holder) against the top of the decanter. When the spring is compressed by the carafe, the plunger rises, allowing water to flow from the bottom of the filter holder. (The plunger covers the hole in the bottom of the filter holder when the carafe is not present.) This plunger is referred to as the "drip stop" in the instruction manual. You can interrupt the brewing process by pressing the on/off button twice and restart it by pressing the button once. Irrespective of this, you can remove the pot for a few seconds during the brewing process to pour yourself a cup of coffee. (The manual says you have 30 seconds. I suspect it depends on the water flow and the risk of overfilling the filter.) A spring-loaded plunger closes the filter holder when the carafe is pushed out to push it up. The jug should be tilted slightly so that it can easily get under the spring when you put the jug back on the hotplate. The included gold mesh filter has a hard plastic base and some water collects there without draining into the carafe. Most of the water exits the sides of the filter as intended, but even without coffee grounds in the basket, water will collect on the flat bottom of the filter basket. I think a filter with a gold screen on the bottom would be a better design to ensure as much water as possible gets through the base and into the carafe. I will be switching to paper filters for more water passage (although the paper will absorb some) and for better handling, especially as the gold filter seems a bit fragile. gold mesh filter. Everything seems fine with 100% Colombian Folgers beer with some sediment. A smaller mesh size allows for the use of finer soil. But maybe that hinders throughput, so given the water flow rate of the machine maybe the filter is overflowing? According to the instructions, the filter should contain no more than 8 tablespoons of coffee grounds. The level in the water tank is indicated by a white ladder made of a piece of plastic. The overflow hole is just above step height "5”. To fill the tank to the maximum, you need to add a little more water, paying attention to the overflow hole. I would have liked the overflow hole to be on one of the sides instead of the back of the unit. This only really affects you if you use a separate jug to fill the tank. The water levels are marked on the carafe so you can fill the carafe and pour the measured amount of water into the tank. So I'll probably learn how to fill it from a carafe. My instant-read thermometer shows the water temperature is 175 degrees Fahrenheit immediately after brewing. After an hour on the stove, the temperature reaches 172 degrees. The lid's latch is tight, so it's difficult to open. it lifts the whole block! However, it is made of plastic and is slightly bendable. I found that by slightly turning the little knob it was easier to release the latch than just trying to lift the top straight up. Opening it this way after brewing is even easier since the plastic is heated by steam (so it's more flexible). By rotation I mean turning the handle around a horizontal axis. The decanter indicates the amount of input (water) and output (coffee) from 2 to 5 'cups', with the difference between the input and output residue reflecting mainly (I assume) water taken from the bases is retained. The carafe holds 27 ounces when filled to the 5 cup inlet level and about 1 ounce less when exiting. So it's close to the industry standard, which is 5 ounce cups.
