Review on Deluxe Products Portable Walkman Relaxing by Gary Lucas

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Has some quirks but works well

I've never had a product where the cables that came with it didn't fit all the way into the correct holes. Audio cables and power cords have 1/4 to 1/8 metal pieces that don't fully fit the hole. If I took care of it now and took it outside I would be afraid of being hit by moisture touching those exposed metal parts that support everything, be it a small current. But thankfully I only use it for a homemade sound machine, buying an external power cord connection to a USB adapter and extension cord and audio to a small (cheap $13) speaker for cellphone music rather than inserting a burned copy of My Favorite Sounds of Nature on repeat playback is 120 repetition cycles. I've thought about hooking it up to a timer, but I sleep very little so it runs most of the night anyway. I was tired of the batteries on the ones that fail (blow and risk leaking) so I went old school and although they were still supposed to make some kind of CD player. Everything sounds better than MP3 player compression, so I can't comment on the sound quality. Issues but no gaps or oddities so far other than the connectors not fully mating. The screen is really tiny and partially washed out by the curved plastic cover. In a few weeks I managed to memorize the keystrokes I wanted/needed but it would be wise if you want more variation and versatility rather than repeating everything. The design flaw is also that for stop (and off) the buttons to open and open the lid are the same. Basically this opens the lid while the hard drive is still spinning, you have to press the same button again to turn off the device and then close the lid again. I mean, no one listens to the same CD twice after wanting to turn it off for a while *rolls eyes*. Anyway, it's fine for my purposes.

Pros
  • Long Battery Life - Disc CD player uses 2 AA batteries (batteries not included) - or you can power your portable CD players with the included USB AC cable (USB power adapter for Smartphone - NOT INCLUDED)
Cons
  • Not included for sure
