I'm only having my closest relatives over for Thanksgiving this year, but I wanted to decorate to make it festive. I hung these beautiful maple leaves over my living room window. You are looking very beautiful. The control box requires three AA batteries, which are not included. It was a little difficult to remove the cover to insert the batteries. I slipped a flathead screwdriver under the clip to pry it open. Although closing it was easy. The small black button moves to one of three positions: off, blinking, or solid. Both lighting modes look good. There is a panel of fabric on each side of the bulb to hide it and diffuse the light when it's on. The thread is thin and covered with transparent plastic. Even against the background of the white wall where I have it, it's not very noticeable. I accidentally left the strand on all night and the bulbs didn't get hot. It says it's waterproof and I'm sure these strings are great for the outdoors. This is a bright addition to my simple Thanksgiving decorations.
