Review on Enhance Your Aquarium Filtration with Fluval Edge Pre-Filter Sponge - A1387 by Karen Gonzalez

Aquarium pumps and filters clogged overnight

I tried it on our filter system. Aqua-Tech Power Aquarium Filter, 30 to 60 gallons. I placed it on the underside of the intake pipe after removing the basket. When I got up in the morning, no water came out of the filter system. I saw a tiny stream. The pre-filter sponge seemed fine to me, but when I touched the bottom where the intake pipe hole is, there was a lot of dirt. I removed it and of course the dirt went everywhere. As a newbie to the fishing hobby, I'm wondering if I made a mistake with the sponge. I wondered if I shouldn't have lowered the sponge further into the tube and not to the opening of the tube so that the dirt would also be sucked into the sides of the sponge and not just all the way to the bottom. I'll try before I'm disappointed. I'm also wondering if I need a rougher sponge. I have an aquarium with goldfish, as we all know they are not the cleanest of fish when it comes to waste. Thanks very much! I will try to upgrade after adjusting the pre-filter sponge. UPDATE: This pre-filter foam sponge worked great after I adjusted the position on the inlet pipe to a lower position on the pipe, not quite, just allowing debris in the bottom hole to be pulled out. Works fine now! I wish it was a little rougher. But it works great!

Pros
  • Prevents small fish or fry from getting into the filter
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
