They remove 100% of all dissolved solids, but after a few gallons the TDS meter (included) quickly approaches 0.06. About 20 gallons are very toasty and have already passed the recommended 0.06 changeover point. I usually let mine run until the water tastes funny, and then I add them. Disgustingly enough, the water is gloriously clear when the filter is fresh, but once it starts working the water tastes MUCH worse than a running faucet! It is of course very strange. In any case, they work better than useless polyurethane filters and remove almost everything, so I choose them until I replace them with a more expensive Berkey.
