I have curly hair 3a. I never thought of self-locking rollers because I thought they would get tangled in my hair, but surprisingly they don't (big and giant rollers)! I've mostly used big curlers because I have long hair and it's easy to twist and unwind. However, I used the 2 smallest rolls and it was problematic. Both got very stuck in my hair, but I was able to remove them with some patience (tip: don't tug or tug, it makes it worse). Once I took them out, I threw them in the trash. So my advice is if you have long or long hair, ONLY use big curlers. They unfold easily. The little ones are more likely to get tangled in your hair and give a bad impression about the curler. It really just comes down to the right size. I curled my hair after towel drying so my hair was slightly damp. I used a portable hood dryer that connects to a portable hair dryer and it really didn't take long to dry my wet hair. I alternated between warm and cold jets for about 15 minutes. These curlers offered lots of volume and lift from the roots, and my hair was pretty straight without requiring a lot of direct heat. I recommend!
