Review on 💧 KOLERFLO RS15-6 SS Green 3/4 Inch Water Recirculating Pump for Water Heater System by Chris Cervantes

I have this to circulate water from my water heater to remote appliances in my house for instant hot water. That works great. Other reviewers have reported issues with the pump due to being unable to stop leaks at the ports. Having a lot of plumbing experience, I decided I was smart enough to solve these problems. First you need to understand that the thread is a hose thread, not a pipe thread, so a direct pipe connection will not work. First I bought a hose threaded adapter thinking I'd screwed up the problem quickly - I made a mistake, it was leaking badly. I don't know if it was loose threads or the adapter was warped but after a few tries I couldn't get it to stop the leaking. So much for my excellent experience. Next I tried a braided hose designed to connect to a water heater. It worked! The problem with this approach is how to support the pump since there is no tubing. I took a long hose, 24 inches long enough that the loop wouldn't kink, and twisted it so the pump was on top of the water heater. Connection to the water supply via another wire. No problem. I made a timer using a light switch timer plugged into an outlet. It also works like a charm for under $30. See photos. However, I'm considering getting a smart plug so I can turn the pump on with an app when hot water is needed, as another reviewer mentioned.
