Now that I mostly work from home, I wanted a mechanical keyboard to replace my old non-mechanical keyboard at home. My old Logitech K520 keyboard just couldn't handle my typing. Many times I got capitalized because he wouldn't release the Shift key once I released it. Another issue with this Logitech keyboard was that the Escape key was lower than the other keys on the keyboard, making it difficult to press. blow. In my line of work, I mostly develop software on Linux, and this escape key is used a lot when editing code. And finally, the keys on my old Logitech keyboard felt good, but didn't have much movement across them. . That made it harder to get haptic feedback from them. At work I have a Das Keyboard 4 Professional mechanical keyboard for Mac with brown switches. It is considered to be one of the best mechanical keyboards with a price tag to match. So this is what I'm going to use to compare it to this Royal Kludge keyboard. The first impression I got from this Royal Kludge keyboard is that it is very efficient for its size. There is no additional frame and no palm rest around it. I think it's good. This means I can attach it to more places, especially when taking it with me on the go. I also like that there are no sharp edges on the edges. Everything is smooth, with rounded corners. I don't know why I like it but I like it. When I ordered it I wasn't sure if the keyboard has legs that can be raised and lowered to tilt the keyboard more, but yes there are two legs that can be raised and lowered at the back of the keyboard . In addition, there are 4 rubber/silicone protrusions on the bottom to improve the sound and feel of typing on this keyboard. In terms of build quality and feel, it's plastic but feels like very durable plastic. If I pick it up and try to spin it, I can't. On some keyboards, it bends a little and you will hear a creaking noise. But not this keyboard. The only thing missing is an on/off switch. For those of you with cats or toddlers who like to type when away from your desk, this can be a problem. I suppose you can always just unplug it from the USB port. But I wouldn't deduct any points for that in my rating. Another first impression I have is that the keys are actually raised off the keyboard surface. If you look at it from the side you can actually see the switches! Well maintained! I have a feeling that this increased feature makes typing a little harder, or at least you'll need to adjust somewhat (consider lowering the keyboard tray a bit or putting a palm rest in front of it). But in the long run, I think the raised keys will prevent dust and dirt from entering the keyboard and gradually degrading its performance. So you can easily clean everything up. When I first started using it, I had to learn how to adjust the keyboard backlight so it doesn't go crazy. There are many lighting options for this. I don't really care about them. I don't need to feel like I'm going to a disco every time I walk into my office. The only light effect I used was that the keys I'm typing light up as I type them. This gives me visual information as to whether the button has been activated. It's neat! I didn't like the choice of font style for keyboard letters. This reminds me of how some of the old keyboards I've used have parts of the keyboard letters wearing out over time. Some letters look like this. Strange choice of font. But I wouldn't deduct a point for that. The Ctrl key is a bit smaller than I'm used to. never mind I'm just glad it's on the other end of the keyboard. Some Mac keyboards hide it among other keys and it really annoys me. So this keyboard does it right. And there's an extra key on the right side of the keyboard that I didn't have on my previous keyboard. Nothing wrong with that. In terms of clicking, after a day of use I was under the impression that the volume is almost the same as my Das Keyboard 4 with Cherry MX Brown switches. Clicks, but not too many. If you work in an office, you probably want a quieter keyboard so your neighbors aren't bothered by the constant typing noise. But if you get it for the office, I don't think it's that bad. People will tweak it over time. The key feel is almost perfect. It doesn't quite "smack" the keyboard when you hit the floor. Something there softens it a little. Speaking of which, you can tweak your typing to get fewer hits and fewer clicks as you soften. My Das Keyboard 4 almost made you silent if you were gentle enough, but not this Royal Kludge keyboard. The volume does not fall below a certain threshold. You would have to type very slowly if you wanted to type more or less quietly here. It just won't happen. Overall I would say this was a great purchase. I would recommend this to others. I hope the keyboard lasts a long time. I will update my review if I see any issues over time. Hope that helps!
