After a long search and after seeing enough positive reviews, I bought this radio. The first was DOA so I requested a replacement and sent the first one back. It arrived two days later, to my surprise. This one worked unlike the first which had no sound. After scanning the AM/FM bands for a second radio, FM reception works reasonably well with the antennas fully extended. However, the AM band was a big disappointment for me as it didn't perform any better than the much smaller, compact radios I own and that was the main reason I wanted it. I love talk radio and it doesn't get any better than a small compact AM radio. This radio requires 4 standard D-type batteries, which significantly increases the weight of the radio. The D elements last longer than the smaller ones so I think there are pros and cons but I would prefer the 4 AA size to keep the weight and size down. A power cord is included to conserve battery power. The radio's best feature is the tone control, which is particularly useful on the AM band as it reduces noise somewhat. In general, the radio is fine, but the best option is the Panasonic RF-2400D, which I also bought from Revain.
