I've had two cone grinders in the $100 range and they both make a big mess when grinding due to the static they generate. OXO designers have completely eliminated the problem of static electricity by introducing three design features: a metal grinding jar, a grounded power plug, and a slower motor speed. At the top of the compartment is a small metal bar that holds the grinder jar. which connects the metal container to the ground pin of the three-pronged power plug. This grounds the metal container and gives a path for static electricity to dissipate. I know the motor speed is slower than my previous grinders because it takes almost 30 seconds to grind the 60 grams of coffee needed to brew. A lower speed not only helps to minimize static electricity, but also improves the quality of the regrind. The medium and coarse settings I use have far fewer fine particles. The lower speed also prevents the metal burrs from heating up and reduces the noise level. This coffee grinder gets a solid five stars. UPDATE 3/9/18: I'm still very happy with the quality of the grind. After doing a little research, I found out that this grinder has 40mm cutters and runs at 400 RPM, which matches the specs of the highly acclaimed $230 Baratza Virtuoso.
