I am an advanced colorist who colors blank illustrations and defines my own palette, medium and medium types. I also color by numbers to relieve stress. My favorite medium type is colored pencils. For the first type of coloring I use the best pencils I have invested in: Prismacolor, Polychromos and Derwent. However, for the last type of coloring, I use inexpensive pencils. For paint by numbers I need: (1) a variety of colors that match the color palettes in my paint by number book, (2) soft cores so my hands don't hurt while applying the paint to to get the desired color effect, (3) Good color payoff, allowing me to apply the minimum number of layers to one piece and finish the entire 8.5 x 11 image in a reasonable amount of time, (4) Colored pencils that are easy to are sharp, stay sharp while still getting optimal coverage on large areas of dull lead, minimizing lead loss from sharpening during coloring, and (5) good color discrimination between pencils, when told there are 120 different colors I wish they were different . (1) Variety of Colors: Artist's Choice The 120 colored pencils have an amazing variety of colors when it comes to matching most of my colors by book number. This is my color matched kit if my other kits just don't match, not even remotely. There are 9 red, 8 orange, 4 peach salmon, 10 yellow/gold, 17 green, 8 blue/turquoise, 12 pink/pink, 12 purple, 16 beige/brown, and 8 others (silver, off-white, black, and gold). metallic). ). The strength of this set lies in the variety of colors and the differences between the colors. Colored pencils (2) Color Cores and (3) CoverageArtist Choice are on the edge of what I want to paint in terms of hardness in my opinion. cores. Their nuclei correspond to Crayola. And for those of you who don't know, there are pencils with a harder core than Crayola in terms of core. On my hardness scale, Artist Choice gives it a 4, Crayola a 3 and prismacolor a 10. In terms of coloring, I find the first layer (coloring in small circles, picking up the fibers of the paper and then going over the area) to be the first layer. after attempting to remove white spots without - or applying pressure to the pen) gives about 50% of the desired coverage. (See the image of the female hairstyle on the right). To get the opacity I want I have to apply two coats and apply pressure very slowly (three coats total), which I don't like. At the end of coloring the entire image, I will most likely apply the final coat of color to cover the areas I may have done a little carelessly. Another thing I've noticed with these pens is that the consistency of the core isn't the same from pen to pen. Some colors are softer than others (rating 5) which means I don't know how much pressure I need to apply to get the opacity I want until my first coat. (4) Pencil Quality: One of the things I really want to say to Artist Choice Manufacturing is FIX THE SHARPENING!. These ready-to-use pens have some of the worst points I've ever come across. The good news is that they are easy to repair and sharpen to a very fine point with a mechanical sharpener. Good thing this was one of the first sets of 120 colored pencils otherwise I wouldn't have tried these pencils and found my color from the number books (picked up color palettes) and I wouldn't have understood what a gem this set is. You may come across a pencil or two with a completely broken stem, but take the time to contact the seller for this set. They have excellent customer service. Overall I give this set four stars. The set lost two stars due to the hardness/softness inconsistency of the cores as well as the fact that I wish this particular set had softer leads and I didn't have to lose lead material from the initial sharpening of the pencils after their delivery. But it got one star for excellent customer service. I would recommend buying this set, if only for the variety of colors of the pens. This creates a very impressive range for the price of a set and if there is anything wrong with your set the seller will do everything possible to ensure you receive a quality set or your money back.
