After several "we never said that" deals with my insurance company, cable company, and ISP, I've found myself recording more and more phone calls just to protect my interests . Too bad you can't easily access the NSA archives, but for now I guess I just have to keep my own records. === Good stuff ===* The device works as promised. Plug in the handset and use your phone as usual. I downloaded a free copy of Audacity, hooked up the cartridge to my Windows PC and after a quick level calibration I got great results. Both sides of a conversation are certainly audible, even if it's not the highest quality recording in the world.* Unusually for me, the earbud fitted my ear and was comfortable to wear for at least an hour or two. Not sure if I wanted to wear it all day, an hour or two, it wasn't that bad. There are three different headphone options and the pre-installed one worked perfectly for me*. The connector fitted very snugly into the microphone jack on my laptop. There was no sound from the plug moving in the socket. === Not good stuff ===* This is not a direct line-in recording, but a live mic recording. Thus, almost every noise in the environment is recorded. Most of my recordings have the clicking sounds of a phone banging against my ear and these headphones, the rustling of papers and other things while I'm on the phone, the keyboard clicking and of course a dog barking. The mic's directivity seems to be a little better.* The cable isn't the most durable, especially as sooner or later I forget myself and get up with the cartridge connected === Summary === This works well for my application which is is a cordless phone for both occasional and relatively short-term use. I would prefer a linear input solution, but for some reason this seems like a difficult task. I wouldn't want to wear this thing for 8 hours and the sound quality and noise reduction could certainly be improved, but for recording calls to 'helpdesk' it works fine.
