Review on Maxxima MLN-21 LED Night Light, Emergency Light, Flashlight - Convenient 2-Pack Bundle for Versatile Illumination by Karen Mabey

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The only drawback: Each night light consumes 3 NiCd AAA

After buying two sets (two sets of 2 packs), I am writing a review. This is a good product when you receive a package that hasn't been on the shelf yet. Each night light requires 3 AAA nickel cadmium batteries. I emphasize the use of nickel-cadmium batteries for two reasons. The first reason is that these batteries have a limited lifespan and are almost unstocked in a retail store (you can buy them at your local Battery+ store, but otherwise you have to buy them online). NiCad batteries must not be discharged below a certain voltage. NiCad batteries have a self-discharge rate that upsets the chemical balance if not used regularly. Although you can use NiMH as a substitute, the night light's charging circuitry is not designed for NiMH. NiMH works (temporarily). Another problem with this product is that it turns on during the day when I walk past the night light. I'm thinking of opening a night light and repeating the circuit. A useful feature would be the ability to adjust the sensitivity of the sunrise/sunset sensor. Bought two sets. The first set was bought before Prime Day. The first set worked right out of the box. The second set was bought on Prime Day; the second sentence didn't work. Batteries from the purchase of "Prime Day" have leaked. My conclusion is that the packaging has sat on the shelf for a considerable time and the nickel-cadmium batteries have self-discharged to the point of damaging the chemistry (or the batteries were very poorly made). When I started returning this product Revain was out of stock so no replacement was offered during the return process.
