I work in the consumer electronics industry and know a few manufacturers that make these products that cost hundreds if not thousands more so I was a little skeptical but given the price it was worth a try. My teenage girl had a birthday party and I thought it would be nice to put them on the pool deck for some fun lighting. When I received the package everything was as expected. The LED strip was nicely packaged in a foil pouch, and the controller and power supply were in boxes. I stuck it in the wall and it lit up my living room like Times Square! We played around with different lighting settings and effects and quickly got used to the remote control. The instructions weren't very good, but if you just spend some time exploring all the features, you should be able to figure it all out. I ended up installing an LED strip below the ceiling on my patio and plugging it into an outlet I installed that I taped off from an outdoor ceiling fan switch. The small controller box and power supply are hidden, and the IR sensor dangles down so I can press it with the included remote. The adhesive on the back of the strip didn't stick very well to the painted wood, but the included nails, placed about every 18 inches, got the job done. I had to run wires from the controller to the ribbon and use a simple 4 wire signal cable and solder the connections. The operation of the light bar works quite well. After figuring out what "mixed" RGB settings we liked, we programmed them and they remembered perfectly every time. I was a little worried about this since the power supply is plugged into a switched outlet (remember the ceiling fan light?) and user preferences are lost. If the LEDs stayed on to a certain setting when power is applied they will actually turn back on to that setting, if the LEDs were "OFF" and power is applied they will stay off. Relax. We programmed several presets that we like. A "color matched" light to match other general use lights, one to match the blue tone of the pool light and a pair of slow fading and flashing dance light settings for the kids. I was also happy to learn that I was able to learn the IR codes in the programmable remote I use for the stereo outside, which is good for our setup. Overall, for the price, it couldn't get any better if you're willing to put in some time and learn how the remote works and install it properly. I think it's a good product.
