An excellent start to a survival kit!

This kit comes in a sturdy pack, the material is thick and durable, the zipper functions smoothly and, the straps in the back have snaps so, you can attach it to your hiking bag or bike. There are many contents in this bag that could be very useful in a survival situation! the first aid kit comes in its own little red bag, it includes the most basic first aid supplies and, should do the trick for the most common minor injuries. The solar lantern blows up with a few breaths. It does not come charged and, must be placed in sunlight several hours before it will light. I would recommend charging it prior to leaving the house because, lost in the woods at night time is not the time to realize you should have charged it! The light is not terribly bright but, it does the job and, is easy to use having just one button. The emergency shelter is an 8ft X 5ft mylar blanket with a 20 ft cord. A cord can be tied between 2 trees and, the mylar sheet is draped across. The emergency raincoat is not extremely durable but, has nice buttons down the front and, if care is taken, you may be able to get a few uses out of it. The emergency thermal blanket is big enough to make a crinkly little sleeping bag. This emergency blanket is made of the same material as the shelter and, the 2 will pair well together. Shelter is an absolute must in a survival situation and, I am thankful this kit has shelter covered! 2 glowsticks with necklaces are included, these are an excellent addition incase the lantern is not charged or is not working. Hempwick included is in rope form and could have many uses including fire starter , fishing, shelter ect. The flashlight feels somewhat durable, is metal, has a belt clip and is telescoping. It requires a AA not included. The multi purpose pocket survival tool can function as a can opener, knife, screwdriver, ruler, can opener, 4 position wrench, butterfly wrench, saw blade, direction ancillary indication, 2 position wrench and, has a lanyard hole. The pocket too is the size of a credit card and, comes with clearly labeled card to explain the functions. The paracord bracelet is valuable for the cord but, it also has a fire starter, whistle and compass. It fits comfortably and, functions as expected. The pen is metal, has a pocket clip, writes well and has a sharp metal tip on the end opposite of writing end. The spork included is metal, can function as a fork, knife, spoon and can opener. The fire starter works great with the hempwick or dryer lint to start a fire. It took me several attempts but it was successful! The pocket saw included works for smaller things like fire wood, i would not recommend trying to cut down a full tree as, my fingers get sore with prolonged use. The scissors are great for medical use, the have the rounded use to prevent poking skin during wound dressing care, i am a nurse and use the same ones at work. The carabiner clip is metal but, I would not trust it with expensive equipment. The emergency whistle is metal, has a key ring and,, is quite loud. The knife is sharp but does not always close correctly. i will be replacing the knife. Overall this is an awesome start to a decent survival kit. I will be adding extra things that were not included to mine like, a snake bite kit, bear spray, a water filter or tablets. I take this kit for backpacking trips and, leave it in my car when not in use.

Pros
  • All things in a small compact kit with useful items. It wasn't cumbersome on a backpacking trip at all.
