Review on πŸ”Œ SATA/IDE to USB 3.0 Adapter: Universal External Hard Drive Reader and CD/DVD Drive Converter with Power Supply - Supports 6TB HDD/SSD by Matt Williams

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Plug and Play - Requires 2.5 " drive power supply

I needed a way to read multiple hard drives without them to plug into the computer. This works great, but I was a little surprised that a 2.5" drive would need a 12V power supply to work - they usually only need USB power. This probably means that the chip in the adapter itself needs power, which unfortunately isn't suitable for travel use. Unfortunately, the data connection uses a USB-A to USB-A cable. This in itself is not a problem. but I really don't like having those cables lying around idly. They can be harmful to computers if misused by someone (plugging both ends into a computer can burn out USB ports). Otherwise everything works as advertised. It measures 2.46 x 3.96 x 0.60 inches and comes with a Molex connector. It's not the most elegant package, but it's good for compatibility with any hard drive you might come across. I've had to read IDE hard drives in the past, but I no longer have the opportunity to test them.

Pros
  • Supports drives up to 6TB: Supports drives up to 6TB, SATA to USB adapter allows simultaneous access to 2 drives. LED indicator shows power and activity status. Tips: Some IDE hard drives are obsolete, you need to put a jumper to enable the drive (set master drive and slave drive)
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
