later My 7 year old loves fuse beads but my 4 year old was very upset. She wanted to take part, but the edgy boards were too hard for her. I bought these sculpted perforated boards in the hope that it would help her get over some frustration so she could sit next to her brother and work on the same project. I'm so glad I did! She can fill the whole board and get the shape of what she was trying to do. The colors don't always match, but that doesn't bother her at all. We have a little girl with rainbow legs and arms in different shades of pink for her dress. She was madly in love with a project that she was able to complete with minimal help from me. They are still better suited for a 4 year old and her attention span so I helped her after she worked 30 minutes on her own! She had a lot more to show with this board than with a blank square in those 30 minutes because she felt like she was doing a real design. I do NOT recommend ironing beads for children this age if you can help. They are frustrating and fine motor skills are still developing. But if you're in a situation like mine with an older sibling and you're jealous, I hope this helps ease that tension a bit.
