Many flameless candles look fake—too orange (or worse, bright white), and if you have more than one, it turns out they're often synchronized with the movement of the flame. These are not like that! Instead of a tubular flame, they have a flame-shaped flat piece of plastic. I confess I had my doubts until I turned them on. When lit they look completely real from a distance, enough to fool my husband. I recommend mounting them away from the wall if you want them to look as real as possible. Otherwise, you might see them cast artificial "fiery" light on the wall, which is a little giveaway. But otherwise they look very good. As others have mentioned, they make a tiny ticking noise as the flame moves. If your room is dead quiet, you will hear it; Even with a little background noise, you probably won't. So far the timer and remote control functions work well and I'm looking forward to using them at night with rechargeable batteries. I will buy again without hesitation. (Note: the Antizer seller has a nine piece set that he sells that is made out of birch too. It has a different flame style, more orange and not as realistic. They are good, but this one is way better. I wish they were bigger! )
