Review on Sulky Super Solvy Soluble Stabilizer by Jessica Lewis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great for thread baskets

I don't embroider so just tried it on a thread bowl for the first time. (Wendy Hill's Incredible Thread-a-Bowls) The instructions for some of the bowls called for a coat of Super Solvy and Ultra Solvy. But when I saw the prices I decided to just take Super Solvy and try two coats. It worked great. I don't know why the author of the thread bowl requires both, it wasn't explained. I'll briefly describe the process of the filament bowl so it makes sense. First, place the paper form on your work surface (for reference only). , then apply a layer of Super Solvy on top. Then place all the strings (and other fillings) for your bowl on the first Solvy layer, going a little beyond the paper reference guide. Apply another coat of Solvy over the strands. Slide the paper form out from the bottom so it doesn't get in the way. Generously fold three layers together (Solvi, Faden, Solvi). Machine sew (many) layers to hold everything together. Then attach the sewn together layers to the paper shape so you can cut the sewn together layers to the size you want. Rinse "most, not all" of the solvi and place the thread circle on an inverted bowl until dry. Gently pull it out and seal and you'll have a nice bowl of yarn. These instructions are not as detailed as in the book, but I just want to give readers a clear idea of what I'm using Solvy for. Thread lovers, please don't feel like you need to buy both Super and Ultra. This works fine.

Pros
  • Includes a 12" Super Solvent 9 yard screw
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
