I use this watch for about 6 months for indoor and outdoor walking, indoor and outdoor running, cycling, hiking and sleep tracking. I wear it to shower and sleep, activities and work and I find it looks pretty enough to wear in a semi-formal style. It's so thin and light that I hardly notice it even when running long distances. The display works without a backlight, although there is a light button and it's very clear in daylight. Indoor visibility is a little less noticeable, but the standard watch face offers a variety of colors that can help improve visibility, as well as a selection of other watch faces. As a refurbished watch, I had no issues with scratches or smudges on the watch and bought a Military Shield screen protector (which lasts at least five months) to replace it when it wore out. There are small scratches on the Vivoactive body itself that the screen protector couldn't cover, but despite being thin and light, the watch is quite durable. The pedometer isn't the most accurate fitness tracker: I misread a few thousand steps in HMMWV, and the step count varies more when climbing stairs, but the GPS is incredibly accurate. It tracks the treadmill to the smallest street crossing and gets a very accurate odometer count (open track tested). The "Back to Beginning" feature is nice, but it doesn't use the previous path or waypoints, it just points to where the magnetic grid started. Biking and hiking overlap a lot in terms of distance and GPS tracking: I've ridden multiple routes and made scenic detours on each, and the detour and miles have also been tracked. I go between 5 and 8 days without a battery depending on how often I use or use the GPS and that's when I'm connected to notifications all the time and 2 daily alarms. The watch charges in approximately 4 hours with the stunning magnetic charging stand. The GarminConnect app is a black label for this product. It syncs best with your VivoActive via Bluetooth when the app is open (running in the background is allowed) and automatically pulls steps, sleep and activity data, and also works with third-party fitness apps like the Apple Health app and the like be synchronized. The app has problems syncing available apps and widgets, and the general user interface is limited. I've experienced several times that the app didn't load the widgets I loaded or rearranged the apps according to the settings I applied, which is very important when trying to access things while they're active. Sleep state editing was fixed in a recent update and still requires "going to sleep" during which VivoActive automatically tracks all activity as sleep. Summary Pros: Incredibly accurate GPS, Lots of activity tracked, Light weight, Readable outdoors, Customization Cons: App syncs slowly, App always works, Steps aren't always accurate. Protective film is a must!
