My 4 year old figured out how to use them. It worked intuitively when I needed to figure out how to unlock a walkie-talkie tied to a specific channel (didn't have to refer to the instructions to figure it out). They are a lot smaller than I expected as I only walked around in the 80's when they were giant monsters. I think we'll try to use them for practical purposes and not just for play when the opportunity arises.
