Review on Performance Yamaha Bruin Replace NO 5UH 85540 00 00 by Timothy Cole

Don't buy that cheap CDI box. It doesn't control everything the factory CDI box does.

This CDI box was listed as a replacement for the original factory CDI box on my 2007 Yamaha Grizzly 350 2×4. Oh no! The original Yamaha CDI box not only controls the spark plug operation, but also the oil temperature control system. This aftermarket CDI box has no built in internal circuitry to control the oil temperature regulation system. I installed it and as soon as I started my quad the oil temp warning light came on and wouldn't go off and the quad was cold from being outside for 30 seconds. I drove it until it got warm and the fan never came on! I thought I had a bad oil temp sensor. I changed the oil temp sensor but the oil temp light stayed on. I couldn't understand. Until a friend found a diagram of the aftermarket CDI on the internet and we realized that there was no on-board circuitry to control the oil temperature control system.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • No automatic transmission
