Review on Voltive Speaker Wire Conductor Oxygen Free Accessories & Supplies for Home Audio Accessories by Jarod Lacy

You probably won't find a better 10AWG direct burial; some room for improvement

Customer's existing system excluded 70V audio (which our company recommends for longer runs and/or multiple speakers). So we switched to 10 gauge speaker wire to ensure good sound despite long distances. Overall, I'm glad I chose this cable. What we liked: 1. The service and communication from the manufacturer was excellent. My reels lost a few lugs in transit and the manufacturer sent me a replacement set very quickly and free of charge. They even wrote me to confirm the address. Six stars for that! 2. The cable is very soft despite its weight. Good enough to be used like normal speaker cable except where direct burial is required. Unrolls from the spool very easily and does not stiffen even in cold weather.3. The cable is actually twisted pair (with a rather low twist rate, but still). A useful feature in terms of RF noise reduction compared to many other non-twisted pair audio cables. Willingly accepts Lot. With some cables, the copper strands are oily or contaminated due to the manufacturing process, which makes soldering difficult - no problem here. The outer shell is smooth and doesn't stick together (like some soft plastics do). Drawing was easy, even in tight spaces, with just a little draw lube.6. The cable has both used and left over markings and is very legible with white ink. Potential for improvement: 1. According to the manufacturer, the outer shell is not UV-resistant. I had to run it in runways or tape, off the ground, and in shadowed areas (good thing I painted them to match the surroundings). I believe that all cable and cable outer sheaths should be UV resistant and the product listing and packaging should make it clear that this is not the case. 2. The structure of the cable consists only of a soft and thin outer jacket, a small amount of tissue paper to reduce internal friction, and two conductors (red and black). I wish the outer shell was stiffer - whatever it was I found it too brittle to lug around gravel etc a few times without worrying about the jacket being punctured or frayed. I would also like, in addition to a stiffer outer shell that offers mechanical protection, a separate inner shell that protects against water ingress, with a gel between the two shells. Clients pay a lot for the work, and I want to be sure that the result will please them for many years. When the cable starts to absorb water its sound performance degrades and I don't want to worry about that.3. I was very careful with these (pretty heavy) 500ft spools, but couldn't avoid cracking the 0.5" plywood side of the spool. I feel that the weight of the 500ft reels calls for a heavier build. 5 Stars. With the cable connected and in use, the performance was excellent. The client is very satisfied.

Pros
  • TIME-SAVING FEATURES. The quick connector and ripcord reduce the time it takes to connect the wire. The jacket seal includes UL information and labels telling you exactly how much wire is left on the spool.
Cons
  • Very expensive
