I didn't notice that the pattern looked like stripes because I didn't enlarge the photo enough. It looks kind of gray to me. The name of the color (Sail) should be a win-win situation. In person, however, it looks and feels very good. I really wanted something cotton, not synthetic, and this is the closest I could find. MSRP is $140 so I saved over $100 which makes me happy.
