Review on Transcend 4 GB Class 6 SDHC Flash Memory Card - Best Performance and Storage for Digital Devices: TS4GSDHC6 by Noah Lewis

Slower than most Class 6 cards, but cheap

I have many Transcend Class 6 cards, as well as about a dozen cards from other companies. Interestingly, the actual speeds of Transcend Class 6 cards vary widely. For example, I have two identical Class 6 8GB cards bought about 6 months apart. The old card (running ATTO-DISK, the same software used by some professional reviewers) is about 50% faster than the new one. This 16GB card is slower than both of my 8GB Transcend cards. It's actually the slowest class 6 card I've ever had. Most Class 6 cards are tested between 10MB/s and 15MB/s. This card only manages about 9MB/sec. The specification requires at least 6 MB/s, so it's still acceptable. If you're interested, check out my review of the SanDisk Extreme Class 6. It's literally more than three times faster than this card (but also costs significantly more). It's also worth noting that the SanDisk Ultra Class 4 cards are vastly superior to this card. But SanDisk itself is in a class by itself. The good news is that this card is probably fast enough if you're only shooting JPG stills or slightly less than full 1080HD video. Only capturing HD video at maximum quality settings on a high-end camera or capturing long bursts of RAW images on a DSLR is likely to strain this card. I also had a Transcend 2GB card fail and lost everything on it. . Although any card can fail, I haven't had any issues with SanDisk or Kingston, although I use those brands more heavily. There have been many other reports of problems with Transcend cards (although some of these are likely due to trying to use a card that was too slow for their application). So you have to balance the lower price with the possibility of losing everything on the card and lower performance. Finally, be careful, everything you put in this card has to be SDHC compatible. If your PC, device or reader is more than a few years old, this may not be the case. I know people who have filled their new SDHC card with irreplaceable photos and videos, plugged it into their old PC to download photos, and messed up the card because the PC wasn't SDHC compatible. You have lost everything. If you have any doubts
