Very short focal length
For such a fixed lens magnifier, it has a certain focal length at which it will work. If you move the lens too far, the image will be distorted (upside down). For that, the focal length of a large lens seems to be maybe a quarter of an inch. The small lens is only a few millimeters in size. So, I think it would be fine for a lot of things, but mostly I was just frustrated with using it. I use it to see small details on circuit boards and half the time I find it bumps into other components because I have to hold it so close.
