Works until they find out. Our mare will take a step back to sit down from time to time until she calms down. It definitely helped there. She will pull back until she reaches the end of the line, which is enough time to get to her, but she realized that if she keeps pulling, she will be free. I still use it as it protects her from injury. We're lucky she stays put until something scares her (which is rare). It works great with any guard ring, even on the side of a trailer. , would be ideal.
