This review is for the Vantec CB-ST00U3 NexStar USB 3.0 to SATA 6Gbps Optics/Storage Adapter. Plug in your old DVD optical drive to start ripping CDs again. I don't have an optical drive on my main PC (NZXT H440) and need an external option that I can use on multiple computers. It meets all requirements. Small and portable so I can toss it in my pocket and cheap enough to be soft in my wallet (5.25 outer cases are $50? What?). Also, I could use it with any HDD or SSD. Also, USB 3.0 speeds things up. Plus, plus plus. But not everything is perfect: the adapter block is small, but does not have its own support. It's not heavy by any means, but all of its weight is borne by my DVD drive's SATA and SATA power connectors. This may or may not be a problem if you plan on keeping it connected to a 5.25: drive for a long time. With a 3.5" hard drive, this is probably not an issue due to the thickness of the drive. The cables are short, especially the USB cable. It seems to be the industry standard for USB 3.0 peripherals - a super short USB cable. This is a net plus Windows 10 recognized my DVD drive right away and I've been ripping CDs with AcurateRip all day.
