My third attempt at a USB to SATA converter that would allow me to connect a drive to my laptop. I literally looked at 2 others who promised this would work and they both failed. Meanwhile, this one came in for $20 and when I plugged it in and put in a BluRay disc everything worked like I had a disc drive in my laptop. It was a full size 5.25 inch internal BluRay burner and of course it just worked. Compared to the $50 some companies charge for a full case (if you can actually find one), this…

It Works Computers & Accessories

I bought this because my Blu-ray drive doesn't fit in my computer case. It works but has some downsides. Pros: - Inexpensive - Windows recognized my Blu-ray drive immediately - No setup or drivers required. Cons: - USB cable and power adapter are very short. . It comes with a basically vibration-dampening mouse pad. He's nervous by nature. It works and is significantly cheaper than buying a complete optical drive enclosure. However, since the cables that come with it are very short, I have to…

Pros
  • Durable Surface
Cons
  • Problems

This is a reliable USB 3.0 SATA docking station with good read and write speeds. I love that it has a power button (something many competing models don't have) and it even comes with a soft, thin mat to accommodate an attached hard drive/optical drive for stability and surface protection. My only complaint is that this device doesn't seem to support flashing the BIOS of connected drives, which is particularly annoying with optical drives as the reason for buying such a dock seems to be to avoid

  • Free for educational purposes

Vantec CB-ST00U3 NexStar USB 3.0 to SATA Lots of disk read errors

I bought this because my external Blu-Ray drive broke and I had an old internal drive that I got from another computer could pull out. However, I think there is something wrong with this particular device. I've tried a DVD drive and a Blu-Ray drive and they both seem to have random problems reading and ripping DVDs. I would say it works 75% of the time, but some drives just have problems reading sectors. I thought it was my Blu-ray drive so I pulled it out and put in my DVD drive. But he does…

ERROR 2nd use! in Computer Accessories & Peripherals

Looked good out of the box but on the second use I copied about 7GB film from a 3.5 inch drive, the copy failed about halfway and now the device does not turn on at all, no LED and does not register on the computer. The power supply, which outputs a stable 12.28V, has tried 5 different drives, ALL of which still work fine with my 10 year old USB 2.0 adapter. Tried other known good 12V adapters - no change. There is no visible damage to the internal circuit board. The voltage regulator section…

It only worked after I remade it with a soldering iron.

I connected an ASUS Blu-ray drive, the built-in 12V/2A power adapter was not enough to ensure reliable operation to guarantee. I have a 4 pin Molex on the back of my computer that plugs into the main PC power supply and is for drives connected via eSATA. I took a spare Molex splitter, trimmed the excess wires and soldered the yellow wire to the center pin of the original power connector and the black common wire to the side. Now I can connect it to the main computer and it will turn on and off…

Works as expected with one major downside

Very handy adapter considering more and more computer cases don't have an optical drive bay. Since I only use my optical drive once a month, I can understand why. This adapter gives me the ability to connect an optical drive on those rare occasions. Works well. Plugged it in and my computer immediately recognized the drive. I love the rubber mat that comes with it. Great idea from Nextstar. Protects any surface you place your disc on from scratches. Now for the downside. The power supply cord…

Exactly what I needed.

This review is for the Vantec CB-ST00U3 NexStar USB 3.0 to SATA 6Gbps Optics/Storage Adapter. Plug in your old DVD optical drive to start ripping CDs again. I don't have an optical drive on my main PC (NZXT H440) and need an external option that I can use on multiple computers. It meets all requirements. Small and portable so I can toss it in my pocket and cheap enough to be soft in my wallet (5.25 outer cases are $50? What?). Also, I could use it with any HDD or SSD. Also, USB 3.0 speeds…
