I bought this slicer to replace an old one that finally broke during use (not this brand). I bought this new one because it looked well made in the picture. I received it when I promised and I have used it several times. I have the following comments: Good: The product is well made. Raised handles make it easier to grip, and the sides of the cutter and blade are deep. The knife slices the apple well once. The Bad: These comments compare to my old slicer: the old slicer's blades weren't as deep and actually allowed for better control during initial slicing. The deeper blades on this slicer actually make it a bit more unstable during the initial slicing process. Something like a focal point. The entire blade was previously in the apple with the old cut versus the new cut. The diameter of my old cut was slightly larger. I use my slicer to slice Fuji apples and this new slicer feels firmer than the old one. You have to be more choosy about how you align that slicer so that it falls down properly and doesn't cut into the sides of the apple.
