Review on ๐ŸŒฌ Dyson Cool AM07 Air Multiplier Tower Fan, Black/Nickel - FDS by Heather Johnson

Expensive but great fan. Pathetic remote control/usability

Ok, the fan is great. Quiet enough and the amount of air it moves is impressive. I say fairly quiet because there are other fans that are just as quiet. The air movement appears to be the same over the entire height of the fan (not including the pedestal). I like this because other fans tend to be heavy on the top or bottom for air movement. I find it amazing how they did it. Let's talk about usability. Whoever engineered the operation of the fan/remote control should be brought into the barn and dealt with. Where to start Power off, display, remote sensor, they're at the bottom of this damn machine. This causes sooooo many problems** It's good to have a remote control, isn't it? But it's not how it's designed/working and the only way to control the device? Not good. see below** Do you think everyone (with bad backs, older people) can lean that low? Also, there's not much you can do with that button alone?** The display is so low. Genius. I have to sit down/stand up to see the display. So useless again.** Well, we're at a good point. Remote control and IR sensor. It was designed by a trainee with terrible grades, wasn't it? First accommodation. Here, too, we have to sit up in bed, aim very precisely, press the button(s). Poor reach and angle. you better show it just right I set the fan speed in the middle of the night and go back to sleep. Good luck with it. By the time you aim, start swearing, toss and turn in bed, your sleepiness will go away. Now I'm angry and I know it's not good to go back to sleep, but that's just me. ** IR remote control. The remote control or sensor does not have enough power and why such a tight corner where it works. Come on, something like this should work across the room (10ft minimum). I can't get it to work from 4ft. I need to point to the full face of the device and it should work. There are many thoughts that can help and I point them out directly. Guess I've never had another IR device so poorly designed/implemented.** IR remote control. Don't tell me I need a new battery. This is a common problem (google it). People have tried other programmable remote controls with similar results. Not only is the sender bad, the receiver is even worse. I'm planning to buy an IR extender to see if I can fix the remote control issues myself. Waste of money, aesthetics and inconvenience. A simple suggestion to Dyson. incredibly easy to place the controls/remote sensor with ALL the controls on top of the fan. Some of us have trouble finding a (tiny) remote control and need full functionality (and status) right on the fan. I'm a hardware/software/firmware engineer so please don't tell me this isn't possible. To do it right, it should cost less than $2 to $5 per unit. Please note this is my third Dyson product and by far the worst by any standards (love other products). Overall, it's well below average. At this price point, I'd expect more affordable full controls on top of the fan, better remote control, display, and Wi-Fi support, as well as support for Google Assistant, Alexa, IFTTT, a Harmony Hub, etc.
