Keep lid away from water

I used this to keep small snails separate so they don't get sucked. However, I positioned it so the top of the container was about an inch below the water. Somehow my beta ended up in a box with a huge cut down the side. The poor guy wasn't a fan of his regular skins but found his way into them and got hurt because of it
