Excellent, strong, folds well but there are cheaper alternatives

I've had mine for over a year now and use it around the house a lot. But before you buy, consider this alternative: SHARKK White Portable Folding Stand for Apple iPad mini / iPad 2 / iPad 3 / new iPad 4 with Retina. Display / Galaxy Tab Nexus / Playbook / Xoom / Toshiba / Acer / Nook / and other tablets. It's a lot cheaper. It's a lot easier to travel with because it's a lot lighter and folds up a lot smaller. Of course, this is plastic, which is not as beautiful and durable as Satechi's metal stand. But I have both and find the Sharkk plastic stand very stable and very useful; Like the heavier Satechi R1, the plastic Sharkk is easily adjustable and holds your tablet at different angles, portrait or landscape, with or without the slim case. I only use Satechi at home, I always travel with a plastic Sharkk. The Satechi has one advantage over the Shark: height adjustment. With Satechi you can make your tablet big enough to leave room underneath to connect the sync/charge cable when the connector is facing down. If you want to connect the sync/charge cable using the Sharkk stand, you must orient the tablet so that the connector is pointing to the side or up, not down. I don't mind.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Expandable
