I used the remote for my Samsung Galaxy S5 and Note 3 and the remote was able to take PHOTOS through the default camera app. I use the camera app "Open Camera" from the Play Store as my main camera app and this remote was able to take pictures and START and STOP the video recording. I was skeptical in the reviews if this would work for video or if I would just have to use the Camera 360 app to take photos, but this product works 100% with Open Camera on my Android devices. It's priced at $20 for such a small device, but I guess you're paying for reliability. It would also be nice if the battery was rechargeable instead of just giving you 1 extra battery. Overall I am very happy with this purchase as I received a product that works with the apps I use with no connection issues. **UPDATE** After using this product for a month, I noticed that the remote control doesn't work properly when I try to take videos or photos while standing about 10 feet away. I have a tripod for my phone and wanted to use the remote control to take pictures of myself from a distance. I pressed the remote and when I came back to check my phone there were no photos. It was very annoying, so don't buy this remote if you intend to use it for similar purposes.
