This charger is very small, yet has the capacity to charge eight AA or AAA batteries. It's replacing a Radio Shack charger that was twice the size and had a huge, heavy power supply. The power input for this charger is a USB-C port, and it comes with a USB-A to USB-C cable. This means that you can plug it into any of those 5v USB power sources you almost certainly have lying around the house. It has an auto-shutoff timer, which apparently shuts down charging after 9.5 hours. I initially liked this idea, so I could store batteries right in the charger, but the more I think about it I would rather have a mechanism, like my other chargers, that senses a full charge and shuts down.To test it I plugged it in and put 4 AA and 4 AAA batteries in it. Two of the AA batteries were all almost fully charged, and the other two were about half-charged. After about 5 hours, the indicator lights were still on. The fully-charged batteries were fairly warm and the less-charged ones were cool. This suggests that this unit throws a full current for 9.5 hours, which could damage batteries. So as much as I like the design and footprint of this, I will use it sparingly and only on fully-discharged batteries.
