Extremely sharp and needs some practice. Once you get the hang of it I think these are the best. Your ring finger goes in the holder; The rest of your hand grips the blades to pinch and cut the thread or yarn. We've seen cutters use them for years and didn't realize they held them until they cut them. For travelers like you, I wouldn't recommend taking them on the plane in your carry-on luggage or sewing basket. They are large (4.5 inches) and can be confiscated. This company makes the much smaller capped taps I use and they've never had a problem with TSA. Also, they don't have a case. Note: If you have arthritis in your hands or wrists but know they aren't lightweight. Again, this company makes smaller lightweight tweezers that may be a better choice.
