Since they come from the factory and contain intended contents, they have to be sterilized before filling, I haven't seen a single review mentions this important detail, so I thought I'd contribute by pointing out how to do it. Simply soak all parts in warm soapy water first and then rinse thoroughly. Bring a large saucepan to a boil and, using tongs, dip each jar and metal lid in boiling water for a few minutes, then place on a clean drying rack or bowl lined with kitchen towel. Obviously you don't do this step with plastic shaker lids; They can be easily washed and air dried. After that I let them air dry in my oven overnight with the door ajar (didn't turn them on, just kept them there so they wouldn't get in the way). In the morning they were dry and ready for stuffing. It's perfect. They are nice and thick clear glass and I like metal lids. The shaker's lid allows you to squirt or pour. The only "problem" I had was that I only had about 7 spices and was left with empty jars - a good excuse to expand my spice collection!
