Braun 9290CC vs Panasonic ES-LV9N-S vs Philips Norelco S9721

Shaved for over 50 years, starting in DE for a few years until Gillette introduced their first cartridge, theTrac II, in 1970 or 1971. Then I tried all the cartridges that Gillette has introduced over the years. I got back into DE shaving about 10 years ago and have even shaved occasionally with a straight razor using the latest Gillette Fusion cartridge. However, I recently decided to bet on an electric razor (for the first time). I no longer wanted to deal with wet shaving: face prep, cream/soap, brush, bowl, long shave, cleansing and blood. So I bought three of the top rated shavers on the market: the Panasonic ES-LV9N-S (bought at a shaver store), the Braun 9290cc and the Philips Norelco S9721. All three razors offer a very close shave and are built to perfection. Quality and have well-functioning charging/cleaning/drying stations. So my main criterion for evaluating a razor is how closely it shaves. I don't have very sensitive skin and I shave dry (because I think it gives the closest shave). However, I've recently started using Dickinson's Witch Hazel as a pre-shave. I just put some liquid on my face and let it evaporate for about 30 seconds before shaving. This supports the beard for an even closer shave without the blades sticking together like with other pre-shave products. No electric shaver shaves as close as a blade, but the three models come pretty close, especially since I can shave in about 7 minutes compared to 30 minutes with a clean shave with the blade (no styptic pen!). Panasonic and Braun are very close. The Panasonic can inherently deliver a closer shave (and slightly faster due to its larger head), but the Braun is more aggressive (not too much, but worth mentioning for those with sensitive skin) and more aggressive due to its smaller head. can follow the contours of the face a little better than the Panasonic, especially around the chin and neck. This was only a minor issue and became even less of an issue as I gained more experience with both of these foil razors. As for the Philips Norelco S9721, in my opinion it offers the most comfortable shave of the three and may be the best choice for people with very sensitive skin. However, I believe that while it can provide a very close shave, it ranks third behind two foil razors in my opinion in this regard. Even though my rotary shaving technique has improved a lot, it still takes me a little longer to shave with Norelco than with Panasonic or Braun. I prefer the Panasonic trimmer to the Braun. I love the Norelco trimmer but it is not built into the body and to use it you have to remove the cutting head and replace it with a trimmer. It's annoying. So each of these razors have performed incredibly well and way better than I expected (I will never go back to razor blades again) and if you are considering buying an electric razor you can't go wrong with any of them. three. However, if I had to classify them now, it would be 1. Panasonic ES-LV9N-S, 2. Braun 9290CC, 3. Philips Norelco S9721. They are very, very close in every way, and of course others may categorize them differently. So, as always, YMMV. ***UPDATE*** June 11, 2017 After using these razors for several weeks I am updating my review. The razor I'm most drawn to, the one I most enjoy shaving with, is the . Brown! It shaves very, very close (about the same as the Panasonic) and the smaller head makes a big difference. It's more agile than the Panasonic (requiring less movement around the jaw and under the chin, for example) and feels better in my hand. As mentioned, I shave dry and both devices offer a comfortable shave without irritation. Panasonic is a great car, but like I said, I prefer the brown. This puts Panasonic in second place. Philips Norelco remains in 3rd place. It is capable of a very close shave (though not as close as two foil shavers). However, this razor definitely takes a few minutes longer to shave than the other two. Also, I prefer to shave with the linear motion of a foil razor than the small circular motions that have to be used with Philips Norelco. And I found it a lot harder to shave my upper lip with this razor and get pretty straight sideburns (without using a trimmer) compared to the other two razors. As I mentioned in my original review, Norelco's non-integrated trimmer is really inconvenient. So here it is. In my opinion, the Braun 9290cc is the best electric shaver on the market.
