After roughly pushing the couch back into the outlet and breaking several socket bezels, tearing the plastic cover on at least one plug and exposing the wiring, I've had enough. This solution works much better. It's a flat fork, so no more thinking about what made me make that decision in the first place. I love that I only use one plug in the socket for both lamps on either side of the sofa. It's long enough to reach the lamp plugs tucked behind the couch, although I also tied an extra lamp cord to the zipper to keep the kid and dog from tugging on the extra cord for fun chew toys. In general I'm happy.
