Balanced Frequency Response and Noise Isolation

An early review so I'll come back to that later. I like these earbuds better than the Bose QC 30. To my ears, they give off a relatively flat response in the 55-9000Hz range. They still play clear tone down to 17Hz(!) and up to 13,000Hz, although other people may be able to hear beyond those ranges. The bass isn't as strong as the Bose headphones I tested them with, although they can produce stable audio at lower frequencies. The Bose headphones I compared had a static sound with clear tones at low frequencies, which is likely due to the distortion-causing amplification. The PSB headphones were a big improvement over the old Etymotic MC5 headphones, which sounded tinny by comparison. PSB eartips take some getting used to as the wire goes behind and over the ear before the tip of the ear tip is inserted into the ear canal. Because of this, they take a little longer than regular buds to come in and out. It may be necessary to try different tip sizes and types for a snug fit. PSBs come with three sizes of foam and rubber tips. I recommend trying each one and then buying replacement tips. They sound very good, but are expensive. If they turn out to be fragile, it will be a big disappointment. For now, though, they seem to offer decent noise isolation with no mic hiss and good response at high and low frequencies without overboosting any frequency. Area. --- UPDATE --- Important notice. If using a foam tip, read the insertion instructions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYpdm2qm6Pc. The instructions accompanying the product are not satisfactory. I prefer foam pads as they provide good noise isolation and don't fall out while driving; but only if they are correctly dimensioned and used. (Tip: start big.) Online tools make it easy to compare some headphone reviews. To test the frequency response, try this website. http://www.szynalski.com/tone-generator/ To test a range of headphone displays try this website. http://www.audiocheck.net/soundtests_headphones.php Using the dynamic range test on this site, my test showed that the PSB has excellent dynamic range (or maybe sensitivity?) with signals going as much as 72dB below full scale are audible. It's a step up from any of my other headphones including the 2 Bose, Etymotic MC5 and AKG K240.
