I had a last minute flight and needed a carrier so my small dog could travel 'under the seat' in the cabin. This one fits the specs of the airlines and my pup. Love the two hotspots and was able to easily check out the pup mid-flight. She slept most of the entire trip and sat quietly as she was carried through TSA and the lobby. I've never used a shoulder harness - it looked like it wouldn't be able to get the carrier out of the way and neither would the pups. I've only used pens and everything is fine. The only downside was that the carrier was pressed so hard into the shipping box that I had a hard time "unfolding" it and keeping its shape. The top wanted to fall off at times, and the sides fell inward. I had to pull on him several times to keep him from crushing the puppy. I deducted a star from the rating for this very reason. Maybe I'd have more time with it before having to pick it up and use it, and that would help, but I didn't have that luxury.
