I hate to agree with marketers, but they are subtle and beautiful; You can wear them casually with shorts or pants and a blazer and you can get away with it. The sole is not super plush but comfortable enough for me. The skin is soft and unlikely to be uncomfortable to squeeze. Your toes are unlikely to be pinched: the size 10 gave me over an inch of toe room. The soles are of a woven construction, with no deep crevices to catch sand that could scratch the floor, and yet they are fairly slip-resistant. .One area of concern in terms of appearance is the outsole, which has an intentionally "smudged" appearance, with a pale base smudged fairly evenly with charcoal paint. I'm fine with this look but look at the photos. Note that the effect is more subtle than it appears near bright sunlight. The construction looks neat and solid. I liked the lacing pattern these shoes came with except for the reinforced upper eyelets which I re-laced for comfort and extra lace length. Again: VERY comfortable, although maybe not for long walks.
