Functional. There is a defrost mode for frozen toast. You can pull it out of the freezer, insert it into the toaster, set the frying time, press the defrost button - it will immediately defrost and fry. A very nice addition is the display showing the cooking time in minutes. lights up white. Some cons: 1. The smell of burning metal when you first turn it on - but this is within the normal range. 2. Non-standard shape and thin slices of bread will get stuck inside after toasting.
