These are the thickest and heaviest socks you can buy aside from their mountaineering socks. This fact was a bit difficult to understand and I had to read several places on the internet to find out this fact. I didn't want climbing socks because they sit so high on the foot. You are perfect. Thicker than their other socks with padding all around. Like all Darn Tough socks, I wouldn't call them chunky. I have bulkier wool socks from other brands. One nice detail I noticed about the Darn Tough Brand socks is that each sock model has slightly different colours/markings so even very similar socks (I have 3 different models, all black) are still easy to wear once you take them out to assemble are the wash.
